What is the Northwest Park and Recreation District?

The Northwest Park and Recreation District #2 was created in 1979 with the boundaries of the Blaine School District minus Point Roberts.  Inactive since 1987, the newly energized NWPRD offers this new mission statement:

Our mission is to provide recreational opportunities, acquire and maintain sites that enhance our quality of life, and preserve the natural and recreational resources of the district.
 Recent accomplishments:
In 2006, Commissioners with the help of community members created a bike and pedestrian trail plan for the NWPRD, testified at Whatcom County hearings in the interest of parks, inter-connecting trails and natural areas, met with local developers and with the help of Whatcom County Parks, acquired eight acres for a future bike/pedestrian trail.
 Future Trails, Bikeways, Master Plan:
Inter-connecting trails from Point Whitehorn County Park to Peace Arch State Park, sports fields at Bay Horizon County Park, water access, youth programs, fenced dog park, senior programs, or preserving natural areas so people can enjoy a Great Blue Heron stalking a minnow, are but a few of the suggestions for future NWPRD projects.
 2007 Goal:
Our goal in 2007 is to produce a Master Plan.  We are currently conducting a facilities inventory and are pleased that Sylvia Goodwin has offered to help us in the master planning process.
