Port Assisting Birch Bay with Tourism Action Plan

[Bellingham, Wash.] The Port of Bellingham is working with a task force composed of representatives of the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce, Birch Bay State Park, Birch Bay Steering Committee, and local businesses on a Birch Bay Community Tourism Study.
The study will gather information on local and regional tourist impacts and potentials for Birch Bay and develop economic development strategies and implementation measures to maximize the potential for Birch Bay.
The process will include a series of intercept surveys of participants of the Sand Sculpture Contest on June 26th and Discovery Day Parade on July 17th, as well as hand-out/mail-back and internet surveys of local residents and tourists during the month of July. The internet survey can be accessed from the Birch Bay Chamber of Commerce website http://www.birchbaychamber.com/  beginning the last week of June.
The Port, task force, and consulting firm, the Beckwith Consulting Group, will identify key issues and potentials from the survey results and conduct a public brainstorming workshop with interested business owners and residents from 7-9 pm at the Birch Bay Bible Community Church at 7039 Jackson Road on August 3rd.
The results of the brainstorming workshop and the proposed strategies and implementation measures will be available for public review and comment from 7-9 pm at the Birch Bay Community Church on the August 24th.
The Port and task force expect to have the final document completed by the first week of September.
